The book-look
"Awards of Excellence" are open to both personal
and commercial sites. To apply you must be the creator/owner of the Web
site.
The following criteria are
used in determing the Awards that are given:
 |
|
Design - A good, consistent and attractive layout with a
considered use of colour is a key factor. We will also be looking for an
effective use of tables, frames, javascript, java applets, flash, css, html,
dhtml etc. But, it must be used in a way that helps the audience
- the use of technology for technology's sake will be penalised. |
 |
|
Content - Your site must have a clear purpose or point.
This can be anything you chose, but those sites that show a detailed grasp of
their subject matter will be looked on more favourably. Pages that are just
collection of banners and links will not be considered. Your site must also be
in English or have an English version that is clearly sign-posted. |
 |
|
Navigation - An easy to use navigation system should be a
pre-requite for any Web site. Users should be able to reach the main areas of
your site from any page, without having to think too hard. Rollover javascript
or image links that make navigation easier and load fast will improve your
rating. |
 |
|
Graphics - Graphic content should be optimised in terms
of its quality (is it crisp and clean?), load speed (will users wait for it to
appear?) and relevance (does it help to illustrate you point?) The use of
original artwork will score highly - reflecting the added effort put into the
site. |
 |
|
Page layout - This combines the actual page structure and
site design. Each page should get across its information without the need for
excessive scrolling (unless absolutely necessary viewing each page should
require no more than one "page down"). Where content needs to be lengthy clear
"sign post" headlines are a plus factor. Links between associated pages should
also be obvious. |
Please note that these are
only guidelines - the over-riding consideration is the overall impression that
your site makes on a new visitor. And we won't know what that is until we visit
you!
However, in general, sites
for commercial businesses will be marked more aggressively than other
sites as the aim of these awards is to acknowledge the hard work of Web site
developers - not how much was spent on the site or how much it
sells.
To submit your site to the
book-look "Awards of Excellence" please send us an
e-mail
including your name, e-mail address, Web site name and URL, and a brief
description. |
