| The second instalment in an astonishing tale of magic, violence and revenge. |
| Customer Reviews: Average Rating: 4.5/5 | | A stunning story: Rating: 5/5 |
Part two of the Night Angel trilogy is a fantastic and fascinating continuation of one of the best books I have ever read. This trilogy is brilliantly written with in-depth world building, amazing characters and truly genius plot lines. The pace of the whole thing is stunning and it is unbelievable to me that this is the writers debut work.
This is not usually the sort of book that I would read, however I cant recommend it enough. The only thing I would warn any reader about would be to make sure you have no plans once you start reading, or your friend will find you antisocial when you cancel on them to finish the book. | | Its a hard read: Rating: 3/5 |
... But its probably worth the slog.
Very slow in places and there are so many side plots it can become a bit confusing, the tough bits need some perseverance as does the magic (of which there is an ample helping) and I found myself having to run back over the text to remind myself what was what and who was whom. The graphic descriptions of the action are very well done and are worth the wait between, on the whole a decent read but taking the three books it's a very long tale!

| I bought this trilogy on the reccommendation of several Amazon reviewers because it sounded like the type of fantasy adventure I would enjoy. I was suprised that this author is not more well known, he is a fantastic writer. His plot throughout the series had plenty of action, detail, characters that build a rapport with the reader and that page turnability that makes you want to not stop reading for anything. I really enjoyed all three in the series and can only say thank you Brent Weeks for writing such and engaging and thrilling story and thank you reviewers for persuading me to try these books. Anyone wavering out there BUY THESE BOOKS you wont be disappointed - I wasn't. | | Excellent: Rating: 5/5 |
| As a fan of David Gemmell, Raymond E. Feist and George R. R. Martin, I am unsure what piqued my interest in a new author. This is a very dark, tense fantasy novel. It has grand scale, likeable (and despicable) characters - the first book in a while to draw real emotion from the reader. I cannot rate this highly enough. | | Excellent Follow Up: Rating: 5/5 |
This book is an excellent follow up to the first volume The Way of Shadows. I loved the way the characters were further developed, in particular,Logan. One aspect I have found particularly appealing in this series, and Brent Weeks has commented on it himself, is the authors ruthless willingess to kill off a character having spent a great deal of effort weaving the character into a central place in the plot - boom they're gone and youre just left wondering - oh.. now where is he going with this?
