Great guide to get you out of Auto mode.: Rating: 5/5
A simply written book to guide you around your camera. Clear examples on how use aperture, shutter speed, when to use iso etc etc.

A must for all wanting to understand how to get out of auto and take better photographs.
Exposure?: Rating: 1/5
Very basic book. Those who know something about SLR cameras will find this book totally unhelpful. I am surprised that this book has got 4 and 5 star ratings. Any one who knows the basics about SLR photography should go and get themselves some other useful book. Total waste of money.
An Excellent Introduction to Photography: Rating: 5/5
Many people recommend this book as the standard "go-go" book for those just starting out with an SLR camera. The book is beautifully illustrated in full colour and each photo is accompanied with full details on how it was taken, along with why those particular settings were used.

Some people criticise this book for just being a book of holiday snaps with no technical information. While Peterson focusses on the practical effects and results of each choice in making an exposure, rather than explaining the technical reasons in great depth, this makes the book a much more practical and useful tool (at least to those of us who learn best by example).

I would highly recommend this book to anyone starting out with SLR photography, either on film or digitally. It will give you a solid grounding in everything you need to know, and give you the confidence to take the photos you've always wanted to using the manual exposure settings on your camera.
