Tears and laughter are all part of this book, she makes you think about your life and except things that cannot be changed, well worth reading and will give my daughter a copy for christmas
A fascinating read: Rating: 4/5
Being a big fan of Tracey Emin's work, I'm surprised it took me so long to buy a copy of this book. I was very intrigued to learn more about the woman behind the headlines and all the speculation in the media. Tracey comes across as a very soulful, troubled individual whose life has been a rollercoaster of incredible highs and crushing lows.

Motherland is the first part of the book and covers her youth in Margate, Fatherland covers her travels to Turkey and relationship with her father and Traceyland (the most interesting part) is about the adult Tracey's experiences in London and New York, living wildly, dealing with pregnancy and abortion and still managing to see life as a beautiful adventure despite the turmoil she's been through.

She strikes me as someone I'd love to know in real life; relatable, funny, warm and honest. The book is disappointingly short, I'd have liked more from the 3rd part purely because she's so interesting that you don't want to stop hearing about her experiences.

I'd recommend this book to all young women, especially (she gives great advice on dealing with unwanted pregnancies) as she emerges as a successful and wise woman even though she has been mistreated by men on many occasions. Tracey's not a man-hater, by any stretch, she falls in love frequently and deeply and talks of how she sometimes really enjoys sex. It's just that this book is a very female account of life.
You won't regret the time you spent reading it, though you're likely to whizz through it as it's so un-put-down-able.
a long way from normal: Rating: 1/5
Well, I'm sure she had a hard life and all that...and I don't mean to be unkind, but well, anybody that is pretentious enough to publish trash like this lays themselves open to whatever gets chucked back.

I put this woman's work in the category of 'dismissable curiosities' rather than something to stand back and marvel at - which is what I want out of artwork. It's all very well saying 'yes but it's a commentary on the way we live in the 21st century etc' but it doesn't make it attractive.

And the book - which you can read in an hour-well it's not a book, it's a collection of sad, disconnected, diaristic scraps of experience with little in the way of interest or literary style - which is just like her productions actually.

You get a bit tired of learning all about everything that oozes out of Tracey-I just don't need to know-and if it's her therapy-well why not keep it to herself and the shrink-I just don't want to be in the room at the same time.

What amazes me is the plaudits on the cover-it just confirms my belief that everybody in the art world is busy stroking each others egos regardless of how untalented they are.

Nevertheless, i did enjoy the last few pages about her Egyptian experience -very accurate and amusing.
strangeland: Rating: 5/5
an honest raw biography. well written and very moving.
i don't think any artist has written so truthfully about their
emotions.
i highly recommend this to all.
astouding, brilliant, raw, funny, touching.: Rating: 5/5
Astounding, brutal, brilliant prose. I can't rave enough about this book. Can be hard reading and make you feel shocked and was really not what I was expecting.. it's much better than i ever thought it would be. Never thought she was a genius before, more a celebrity, but I'm now converted. A must read, even if you weren't really interested in her before. Funny too at times. tracey Emin is not just an artist. This woman can really write.Strangeland
