Now, i'm never normally one to completely despise a book, but seriously, what the hell?!
I'm not gonna make any comparisons to Twilight like other people since this book is stand alone and should be treated as such (and Twilight wasn't that amazing anyway really when you actually stop and think about it but thats just my opinion) so i'll make this review in the same light.
First, the main character, Ever. My initially reaction - her name is Ever? later reaction - her name IS EVER?! Through out most of the book i had great difficulty getting past this fact (and probably never did) while trying to see what i could about her character. I basically got she used to be popular and vain and now because she's "phycic" or whatever she suddenly feels the need to dress like a recluse, speak to no one and drink heavily. She aslo can't make up her mind. one minute Damen is the love of her life and the next she doesn't want to be immortal so gives him up... only to have him back again. Okay, whatever...
Next! Damen...right, so he's fit? Personality? Bit of a jerk who FAILS at being a hero. Tbh, i was happy to see a female character be given the chance to save herself, but seriously? If the love of your life was being murdered, wouldn't you at least TRY to save them? And then Ever does save herself but in the most stupid "oh my god imah gonna die!!argharghargh" to "oh so she's dead now?".
This book also gives...NO explanation to anything. So Damen's immortal? How? oh your not gonna tell me, okay. So he brought Ever back so she's potentially immortal. How? Oh, your not gonna tell me. And what is Summerland really? Not that it matters since it gets about 3 pages of screen time, so who cares! And how does the whole phycic thing work really? Oh no explanation, whatever. And Drina? Some more explanation about why she died? Other then the one line about vengence being a weakness and Ever's love killing her? Nothing, yeah okay whatever... and what was that tattoo Haven had? And how Ever reincarnates? How Damen know's its her? But you know, never mind, who cares really!
Another thing, the names reeeally killed me. Ever, Haven, Drina, Riley(for a girl?) and Honor? what? whats wrong with Sarah, Chloe, Stacy or Jemma?
I really didn't enjoy this book and i wouldn't recomend it. It may just be me getting stressed out by my complete lack of understanding about ANY aspect of this book, but its the impression i got. I'll leave you to make up your own mind about ths book, but if you are really intent on reading it, I suggest borrowing it from a friend or library first. If you like it, then fair enough, thats up to you, but I have never before wanted to just give up on a book half way through. | | Badly written with gaping plot holes: Rating: 1/5 |
I was given this book as a gift, the gifter not realising that it was intended for a teenage audience. However, having reasonably enjoyed the Twilight Saga I gave it a try.
All I can say is that if I was still a teenager and reading this book I would be insulted. I would say the level of writing is pitched at ages 9 - 12. THe characters are totally one dimensional and as such unlikeable, as well as this there are major plot points that are never explained.
Unless in the age group i've stated above, don't waste your time with this one. | | evermore: Rating: 5/5 |
| Evermore is a thrilling, amazing book that iwould recomend for amybody into romance and mystry great book like the serise 5 stars. | | Unsure at the starting line, but a winner by many furlongs!: Rating: 5/5 |
I was a bit dubious when I started to read this. I was worried it would be another book desperate to make it off the Twilight boom.
However, I was pleasently surprised. The writing style was different to what I was used to and it had a few colloquialisms that made it a little uncomfortable for me to read. But the compelling storyline quickly won me over. The energy between the characters ave me a buzz and I just could not put the book down.
I think I read this is two sittings, which led to a couple very tired mornings at work...
Don't be put off by the teen feel, young adults and older adults alike can enjoy this. Accept it at what it is, a good story, wonderfuly characterisation, mixed with abit of angst and heartache. Sounds like a recipe for success.
If you like Twilight, Shiver, Hush Hush, or anything else of that ilk, then this series is a must!!

Ever since the car crash which killed her family, Ever Bloom can now see auras, hear people's thoughts and know their entire life story by just one touch. She has been sent to California to live with her Aunty and has made few friends. One friend is an emo full of attitude, the other sweet and goes with the flow but when a sexy new guy turns up Ever's life will be turned upside down.
I was enchanted by this page turning story, like i was trapped and was forever reluctant to put the book down. I would recommend it to teenagers from the age 12 and over. It's full of romance and danger, one of the best mixes in a book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. | |
