| These books are extremely useful for learning the names of the characters in the Oxford Reading Tree. Most of the books repeat the names several times - "Oh Floppy!", "No Floppy", etc. Once the names of the characters are mastered, it allows the child to move forward in the series. So, if your child is starting Oxford Reading Tree at school, this set could be a very useful investment. The DVD of the series is also good to familiarise your child with the characters. | | Probably the Best Series for Learning to Read: Rating: 4/5 |
My daughters both loved these books. Even though the series starts at such a basic level, and is thus somewhat expensive for what you get, both girls actually spent a lot of time with these books, so in terms of hours of enjoyment, these books were worth the price. The great thing about these books is the way they progress to real and exciting adventures later on. At this stage the characters are just introduced - but even so, there are amusing snapshots and stories that the children love, and they become friends with the characters. The day my eldest daughter progressed onto "The Magic Key" was a special moment for her. Suddenly the characters she had grown to love had the ability to go on magical adventures. That does not happen here of course, but this is a good beginning.
Highly recommended. | | Set of first reader books: Rating: 5/5 |
I bought this set of books for my 5 year old daughter. She's is just starting to read on her own now and gets a big thrill when she can. Up to now, I've been reading for her or at reading some of the words. This set of books is really good because once you get to know the character names and you know the title there really is only a few new words in the book which means the reader can read it themselves without help which is so important for confidence.
They are really basic books though so you may feel you are ripped off with the price.

| My son, aged 3 and a half thoroughly enjoys these books. He will be studying them when he starts school in September and already has an interest in the characters. It has proved a good start for his reading abilities. Recommended. | | An ideal confidence builder for first readers: Rating: 3/5 |
| Rather more basic than I had expected, but a good incentive to read more. | |
