Product Description
Guardian columnist Dr Ben Goldacre takes us on a hilarious, invigorating and informative journey through the bad science we're fed by the worst of the hacks and the quacks!
Customer Reviews: Average Rating: 4.5/5
Fun, enjoyable read: Rating: 5/5
Dr Goldacre has a friendly and funny writing style which helps to keep the book interesting throughout. Although he does repeat himself a lot this is more than made up for by the meticulous and extensive way he presents his views and debunks all sorts of bad science. All in all, a fun read from which you may just learn something
Extremely funny and interesting: Rating: 5/5
I'm not a big science reader, so I was very surprised to find that this book kept my interest from the first page to the very last. True, it is a bit opinionated, if you like- but in this era of hypocrisy and polical correctness, I find this extremely refreshing.
I learned a great deal and I did laugh my head off. Thank you, Ben Goldacre.
Excellent, however,: Rating: 4/5
correct me if I'm wrong but GPs have to use seat of the pants diagnosis a lot of the time, because many of the studies upon which medications are created are not water tight or double blind studies, and nor do GPs have the time to probe the causes behind the causes. That said, I think Ben Goldacre has done an outstanding job of opening peoples eyes, and getting them to realise that the buck stops with them. I use alternative methods of cure, natural remedies and the mind, rather than pills, and I think the placebo effect is pure magic at work, and yet i still love the book, because it drives home the flaws in all methods of diagnosis, and promotes greater self-awareness.
A spectacular win for rational thought: Rating: 5/5
I randomly picked up this book being only vaguely aware of its subject matter - mocking bad science. I feel very glad that I did - the author very clearly and systematically rejects long-held (by the press) health "truths" which are scientifically unproven or unsound and function only to fuel a multi-million euro industry to the (financial or even health) detriment of consumers. The author also attempts to introduce the reader to the scientific method and explain -in layman terms but without oversimplification- how one may verify claims and judge the quality of a scientific trial.

Some reviewers here have stated that the author appears arrogant at parts, but I felt no such sentiment while reading the book. It might be that he challenges (very successfully in my opinion) what may be near and dear to some readers but it really is the case here that the truth does not hurt - it only sets free. Either way you can read a chapter of the book online for free so do try it and then pick up the book because it really is essential reading.
NUTRITION ROCKS!: Rating: 1/5

The mechanics of every cell in your entire body, every thought you have, is made up of the food we eat, the drinks we drink and the air that we breath.

If we consistently eat the wrong foods, too much of the right foods, polluted foods, air and water,we are going to be sick both in mind and body.

The only way to reverse disease is to gradually change every cell in our body with viable ones by changing our diets and the air that we breathe.

Anyone who has not grasped this idea should not call themselves a scientist or a medic.
